College Update:

This week was all about studying for my freshman in college daughter.  Lots of studying and essay writing....She was so happy when they were done!  Then, Friday, she got to go to a formal spring ball on campus.....

She went with a friend from church, and guess what....she found her dress at the Goodwill!  They had a great time.

This time, last year, we were doing high school at home, and planning our college visits, .......and were finally happy to see the sun come out.......so here's what we were up to, last year....

The Sun is a' Comin'

Monday, was dance class day. My teen is taking a jazz class from our local dance and music academy, and is preparing for her recital come spring.  And we were so happy to also have a taste of spring this week...blue skies after days of rain!

Tuesday was all about studies. As a senior this year, we are doing British Literature, with a study of literary elements along with it.  We are using a book from  Rainbow Resource as a spine, and then are building our course around that.  They have lots of great choices there, for workbooks to go with literature.  This week, my teen is working on an essay for Julius Caesar.

Chemistry is going well, with SOS from Alpha Omega Publications.  It includes a lab, and we got organized for an experiment for next week.

Then we headed out to do this at our favorite coffee shop, and picked up the recycling they were collecting for us there, as a part of my teen's Cans for Cats service project.

We always make time for PE, for going to the gym, walking for exercise with friends, or me...

We are lucky to be in the Puget Sound area, which has mild weather.

Wednesday, I took my teen out for some senior pictures...

We headed to our favorite spot, and enjoyed the sun there for some photo taking....and so nice to see it again, after so long! Later that day, we took some time to replenish our supplies for bird watching.

Our local birds love suet, and also their wild bird seed mix.  Here is one of our friends, who comes around all the time, a woodpecker.

Thursday nite, my husband was practicing his bluegrass with friends, so for dinner, the two of us headed out for pizza.  There, we talked about going on some more college visits.

Making College Visits

This is a photo from our first college visit.  My daughter was so nervous, but excited, too.

I am so pleased that my teen will have a choice of colleges.....as she got into more than one!  So we are looking for the best fit, for a college that is within commuting distance from our home.

We will be making more college visits, in the next few months. We decided to make a list of what my daughter wanted to see there, the second time around.

Our College Visit List:

Go on a campus tour

Meet with the admission counselor

Sitting in on a class

Meeting with someone from the dance dept, or other special interest

Having lunch on campus (just for fun!)

College visits can be just the thing to let your teen learn more about their options, and to find a good fit.  And they are such a wonderful thing to look forward to....and my teen is developing her confidence by doing these visits!

We will be setting these up, just by calling the admissions office, and talking to the counselors there.  We have found them to be friendly and helpful with our many questions.

Aiming towards college, added more flavor and excitement to our high school years at home. And we were still able to keep our eclectic homeschooling style.  Are you homeschooling teens, too? How was your week, in your house?  I love reading your comments.

Happy Homeschooling,

Betsy
